At the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with other partners such as the African Development Bank (ADB), IFC (International Finance Corporation of World Bank group, the capital Kinshasa will host the “DRC Agribusiness Forum” from October 4 to 5, 2023 at the Pullman hotel.
Indeed, this forum which will focus on investment in agribusiness in the DRC will be held over two successive days and will debate around the theme: “The revenge of the soil on the subsoil”.
The aim of holding this forum is to attract the commitment of the private sector, both national and international, by highlighting the measures undertaken to create an environment conducive to the development of this sector and present concrete investment opportunities.
Furthermore, this forum reveals a double importance in the sense that, despite the enormous agricultural potential that the DRC abounds, the latter still continues to record low agricultural yields and especially the lowest in the world while in reality its potential processing still remains not only too weak and sometimes unexploited since it imports food worth up to 2 billion US dollars per year.
According to the organizers of this meeting, the DRC's national development plan has made 2023 that of agriculture with the launch of an agricultural sector reform program with a view to promoting the development of private investments in the main agricultural value chains of the country.
This forum will have the privilege of being solemnly opened by the President of the Republic Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo who took part at the beginning of this current year from January 25 to 27, 2023 in the presidential panel during the Dakar Summit2-Feeding Africa- Food Sovereignty and Resilience. And among the various panelists who will take part in this DRC forum, we also highlight panelists including: Commissioner Josépha SACKO of the African Union in charge of Rural Economy and Agriculture who will speak during a panel together with members of the DRC government on structuring reforms to stimulate investment and boost agribusiness with the ministers of agriculture, finance, energy and hydraulic resources, infrastructure and public works, digital and the DG of Anapi Antony Nkinzo Kamole.
The president of the AfDB, the CEO of the IFC, the president of the FEC-DRC and the Minister of Agriculture of Morocco will be the country of honor during this meeting. Akinwumi Adesina with others will speak during the series of opening speeches around the main theme “DRC: an agricultural power in the making”.
Debates and panels around sub-themes such as the commitment of international donors: a new impetus for agribusiness, climate considerations: what approaches for sustainable and resilient agriculture, operational challenges and opportunities to strengthen the resilience of agro-industry in the DRC, digital: agritechs in the spotlight, etc.
