ECONOMY/DR CONGO - "Level up by Makutano" business forum: female entrepreneurship in the spotlight in Kinshasa

"Women entrepreneurs, let's break the codes!" “, this is the theme of the business forum “Level up by Makutano”, organized from March 31 to April 1, 2023 at the Sultani River hotel, located in Kinshasa. In addition to a diploma course offered, the so-called “business booster” event has made available an exhibition space promoting the products and services of young entrepreneurs.

With the theme "Women entrepreneurs, let's break the codes!", Level Up by Makutano was an opportunity for Congolese entrepreneurs to challenge, without barriers or taboos, their current or future activity. The "business booster" event created in 2021 by Mrs. Nicole Sulu, founder of the Makutano business network, this year offered around fifteen discussion-debates, a diploma course, three Masterclasses and, new for this edition, a training diploma and an exhibition space promoting the products and services of around twenty young entrepreneurs.

For two days, nearly 350 participants benefited from unique encounters with inspiring speakers, experienced businessmen and women, from the country and the continent, such as Sara Coulibaly, CEO of Naimadolls; Olga Chera, CEO Olwaste Recycling; Gretta

Lawson, CEO Atelier Kevi, Crazy cream, 228 Kebab; Mireille Kabamba, CEO Canal + DRC; Gisèle Bijimine, adviser and deputy director of communication for the Côte d'Ivoire presidency; Lydie Omanga, vice-president ARPETIC…

They will also be able to participate in several thematic Masterclasses (Becoming a wedding planner with Séverine Sommers, Building the relationship with your bank, or even creating a Concept Store with Roselynd Laubhoueth), a diploma training session on the Business Plan organized by the consulting firm EY ( upon registration), pitch sessions (CSR project of the year, election of Miss Level Up, etc.).

All about Level Up by Makutano

Beyond the testimonies of role models like Eliane Munkeni, vice-president in charge of women and young entrepreneurs at the FEC; Pierrette Mbombo Bemba, director of the customs brigade at the DGDA; Godelieve Elisabeth Lonji, Coordinator of the Tax Studies Unit at the Ministry of Finance; Andrea Moloto, CEO of Champs & Bétails; Cécilia Zappelietto, writer & filmmaker; Eunice Dalo, interior architect and motivator, who discussed their experience, good or bad as entrepreneurs or women politicians, the plenary discussions concerned the deciphering of the administrative and fiscal mysteries of the country, digital and social networks at the service of the development, project funding, specific aid for women or the importance of the network...

Finally, because Level Up advises and offers solutions or avenues of reflection without taboos, the succession of family businesses and the desire for children of women entrepreneurs were also discussed without language of wood.

Level up is an interactive "Business Booster" event intended to inform, help and connect entrepreneurs who have a project, but who do not know how to find funds, the know-how or the network to develop.

Launched in 2021 by Nicole Sulu, the founder of the Makutano business network, this series of events allows the top leaders of the private and public sectors of the DRC to reach out to less seasoned entrepreneurs. In the line of sight: the development of the country and the continent.

The first two editions of Level Up by Makutano, dedicated to women's entrepreneurship, took place in Kinshasa on October 22 and 23, 2021 and in Dallas, United States, on November 13, 2021. A special edition intended for "repats took place in Brussels on May 21, 2022.
