The Glass Municipal Library in Libreville is about to undergo a major transformation thanks to a 155,000 euro grant from the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF). This modern media library project addresses key issues for access to culture, education and new technologies, and aims to position the Gabonese capital as an essential cultural center.

During the 102nd meeting of the Bureau of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), held in Paris on October 3, 2024, an important decision was made in favor of the city of Libreville. The Bureau awarded a grant of 155,000 euros, or approximately 101 million CFA francs, to modernize the Glass Municipal Library into a media library that meets international standards.

This transformation project represents a major challenge for Libreville, and more broadly for Gabon, as part of its commitment to improving access to culture and education. The future media library will not only be a place to consult books, but an innovative space, dedicated to digital education, discovery, and creativity.

The objectives of this project are multiple. On the one hand, it aims to improve access to culture and education, by providing young people, but also adults, with an environment rich in digital and physical resources. On the other hand, it is about promoting digital innovation by equipping the media library with cutting-edge equipment. This space will allow visitors to learn about digital tools, thus offering a platform where information and communication technologies (ICT) are accessible to all, and where young people can develop crucial skills for their professional integration.

Finally, this project aims to strengthen Libreville as a cultural and educational center of the Francophonie. By integrating this new media library into the network of French-speaking cities, the Gabonese capital confirms its role as a center of cultural influence in Africa, capable of attracting international collaborations while meeting the needs of its population.

The transformation of the Glass Municipal Library into a modern media library demonstrates Gabon's desire to place culture and education at the heart of its development, in favor of the fulfillment of its citizens and its youth.
