The Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Grégoire MUTSHAIL MUTOMB and his Ethiopian counterpart, Girma Amente, held special talks on Tuesday, November 5, on the sidelines of the conference for a world without hunger, organized by UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the Ethiopian government and the African Union (AU), with the technical assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The two ministers outlined the state of agriculture in their respective countries and encouraged each other on the initiative of exchanging experiences at the African level in order to advance agriculture in Africa.
The host of the sectoral minister of the Government Suminwa obtained from his counterpart advice on how Ethiopia, which 5 years ago imported $1 billion in terms of food, but by establishing a clear vision has gradually solved this problem related to food imports with the establishment of modern and resilient agriculture to the point of becoming an exporter of agricultural products thanks to the use of irrigation systems allowing production twice a year.
Questions on the organization of agropoles were discussed between the two authorities, both those related to seeds and the use of fertilizers. The Ethiopian minister was open to proudly share the experience acquired in the agricultural sector of his country, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and concluded with his host to send technical teams from the Democratic Republic of Congo for in-depth training within Ethiopian industrial agropoles and the Ethiopian Seed Research Institute in order to acquire more experience that can enable the DRC to become the granary that must feed the whole of Africa given its climatic, hydrological and pedological potential.
