TRANSPORT/SENEGAL: Support for ransacked buses: AFTU takes the hat off to the Minister of Finance

After the violent demonstrations in Senegal, the Republic is mobilizing for the impacted. In this context, a delegation from the Senegalese Democratic Party (Pds) visited, on August 6, 2023, the family of the two girls who died in the attack on the bus in Yarakh, at the beginning of the month, near the wounded and of the bus owner. After discussions with the bus operator, the Pds delegation made up of deputies, was able to see the extent of the material damage. In the process, MPs Woré Sarr, Nafissatou Diallo and Alassane Ndoye, who is also Secretary General of the National Road Transport Union of Senegal, negotiated an audience with the Minister of Finance and Budget.

According to "L'As", the objective was to expose to Mamadou Moustapha Bâ, the enormous difficulties faced by certain carriers whose buses were completely destroyed during the demonstrations. The audience between the Minister of Finance and Budget was held on August 9, with a joint delegation from the Pds and the Aftu. In addition to the deputies, there was Alioune Diop, Chief of Staff of President Abdoulaye Wade in the Pds delegation. As for the Aftu delegation, there was the Aftu spokesman, Malick Dieng, who is also president of the PDS section of Guédiawaye and President of CAPTRANS, the AFTU claims officer and member of the PDS, Modou Mboup, of the Director of Operations of CAPTRANS, structure responsible for coordinating the operation of the AFTU lines, Khadim Mbacké Dieng.

In addition, there was the owner of the attacked bus, Moustapha Diouf. In front of the Minister of Finance, the Aftu delegation requested assistance for the disaster victims who, following these attacks, saw their working tool reduced to scrap metal. "The delegation welcomes the promptness with which the Minister responded to the delegation's grievances and the fact that he made a significant financial gesture towards the victims. The AFTU operators thus thank the Minister Moustapha Bâ for his ability to listen and for the diligence with which he reacted to questions and requests from the delegation", rejoiced the Aftu delegation which, moreover, did not fail to salute the republican spirit of the minister.

For his part, Mamadou Moustapha Bâ immediately presented the condolences of the State to the community of Aftu Transporters and to the Senegalese populations. The Minister of Finance also welcomed the approach of the PDS which, according to him, proves that Senegal is one and indivisible. He further magnified the patriotism displayed by the AFTU transport operators. Because, notes the treasurer of the State, after the attack on the bus, not only the carriers did not give in to panic, but continued the days which followed these attacks, to make their entire fleet of buses available at the service of the people.

Mamadou Moustapha Bâ finally recalled the firm instructions of the President of the Republic to support all those affected by the deadly demonstrations that took place in the country. He expressed, in this regard, the firm will of President Macky Sall as well as of the Prime Minister, to quickly implement a general public policy for those affected by the riots, whose property has been destroyed.
