“Kbi atay” (Pour me some tea!) the controversial song leads its performers to prison. The two rappers have just received two years in prison each as well as a fine of 500 dhs.

The sentence fell on Monday April 29, four months after the sensational release of the song. The Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of Fez sentenced the authors of “Kbi Atay” to 4 years in prison, two years for each of them accompanied by a fine of 500 dirhams. The two singers were prosecuted for inciting minors to debauchery and prostitution, incitement to a crime or misdemeanor through public electronic means.

Controversial

Upon its release, this controversial rap song provoked the ire of feminists and child protection associations. Several calls have been made for its removal from platforms and social networks. Pattern ? Its contemptuous words and content deemed immoral, encouraging the rape of minors and their sexual exploitation, as well as incitement to physical and moral violence against Moroccan girls and women.

Despite the controversy, “Kbi atay” recorded millions of views in just a few weeks. The hit was a real “success” with young audiences. It was also one of the most viewed songs in Morocco on various YouTube channels, before being deleted following the reporting campaign targeting it. Signed by the Moroccan duo Youss 45 and Men Grave, its ribald and frankly sexist lyrics quickly became fodder for trolls, gags and other lewd mems at will.

Strong reactions

In response, the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights and the Fight against Corruption sent an open letter to El Hassan Daki, King's Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecutor's Office and to Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance. The organization called on the two responsible to intervene urgently to put an end to this “crime”, as it describes the song.

For its part, the “Mat9ich Weldi” association announced in a press release its determination to pursue the performers of “Kbi atay” in court by condemning “the toxic content full of dangerous messages addressed to young people and at least young people”. The same request was made by the Association Espoir pour l’Enfance au Maroc.

The latter asked the competent judicial authorities to intervene urgently “to preserve digital security and protect good morals”. This while condemning the content of the song inciting rape, sexual deviance, drug use and the encouragement of illegal migration.
