TRANSPORT/IVORY COAST - CAN 2023: the new San Pédro and Korhogo terminals received the first passengers

The new San Pedro and Korhogo terminals received the first passengers as part of CAN 2023.
The Ivorian airports of San-Pedro (Southwest) and Korhogo (North) received on Friday January 5, 2024, the first passengers of the national company Air Côte d'Ivoire in the brand new terminals. These terminals were also inspected by the Prime Minister, Minister of Sports and Living Environment, Dr Beugré Mambé accompanied by the Ministers of Transport Amadou Koné and Tourism, Siandou Fofona.

These government visits aimed to ensure the quality of the CAN 2023 facilities, namely the competition stadiums, the training stadiums, the CAN cities and hotel reception areas but also the airports. During his visit to the new terminals, the Prime Minister congratulated the Ministry of Transport teams for the remarkable work of modernizing the country's airport infrastructure.

All mobilized
The President of the Republic Alassane Ouattara called for the mobilization of all, during his New Year's message: “Let us mobilize to make the CAN, a great celebration of youth, Ivorian hospitality and African brotherhood. Let's be united behind our national team, the Elephants, and offer the best in the world! »
With the opening of these new terminals a few days before the CAN, this message is translated into action by the Minister of Transport.

Development of air transport 

The construction of new terminals in Korhogo and San-Pedro is part of the vast air transport development program initiated by Côte d'Ivoire. It concerns the rehabilitation work of Korhogo and San-Pedro airports.

This work also takes into account the construction of the landing strip at Séguéla airport, the ongoing construction of Kong airport as well as the rehabilitation and modernization work at Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport.

This renovation allowed the increase in the capacity of the aircraft parking area with the creation of 11 additional positions, the widening of the aircraft taxiways to accommodate large A380 type aircraft and the creation of a taxiway).

Note that Air Côte d'Ivoire is the official carrier of CAN 2023. The agreement was concluded this week with CAF.
