DR CONGO: Felix Tshisekedi sets course for the country’s Renaissance

At the end of complicated and poorly organized elections, President Felix Tshisekedi finally returned. Large winner of the presidential election of December 20, 2023 which, despite everything, saw a large participation; the Congolese Head of State was inaugurated on Saturday February 20, 2024 for his second term at the head of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Final objective: to work for a Renaissance of the country which still faces ongoing conflicts.

Criticized by the opposition, the Catholic Church and part of the population, the Congolese President will have to face many challenges. Which are at the same time security, economic, or political due to the absence of national cohesion that his election for a second term has generated. During his inauguration speech on January 20, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, who was sworn in for a second term, outlined a program focused on six sectors. Felix Tshisekedi said he understood the heavy task and the expectations of the population. This new five-year term, declared Felix Tshisekedi, will thus have several objectives broken down into six points.

First: create more jobs by accelerating the promotion of entrepreneurship, particularly among young people, and through a proactive approach inspired by the societal realities of the country. Second: protect the purchasing power of households by stabilizing the level of inflation and controlling the exchange rate. Third: ensure with great efficiency, the security of the Congolese population, the Congolese territory, the property of the population as well as the preservation of the interests of the country, by means of a profound restructuring of the security apparatus and by continued strengthening of Congolese diplomacy. Fourth: continue to diversify the economy and increase its competitiveness by opting for the processing of raw agricultural and mining products from Congolese soil. Fifth: guarantee more access to basic services by ensuring the extension of programs such as universal health coverage, free education and the PDL145 territories. Sixth: strengthen the efficiency of our public services. The re-election of Félix Tshisekedi is considered a second chance mandate, for the man who promised his compatriots in 2018, “a rule of law where the separation of powers will be a reality”. And who had displayed his desire “to put an end to the reign of the armed groups who are mourning the Congo”.

The Congolese population, for its part, awaits achievements in several sectors of life including the restoration of peace in the east of the country dominated by the atrocities of the M23 rebellion, supported by Rwanda. But in the meantime, there are many Congolese who continue to be the great victims of this umpteenth war that its neighbor Rwanda is imposing on it through the M23, in full view of the African Union (AU) and the international Community.
