TOURISM/ West Indies: Discovery Turks and Caicos Islands

The Turks and Caicos Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, or Turquoises Islands is a name that designates the same entity whose English name is Turks and Caicos Islands. A small island state in the West Indies, although still dependent on the English Crown, the Turks and Caicos Islands have been opening up more and more to the world for several years now.

Composed of scattered islands numbering thirty, the Turks and Caicos Islands remain a British territory. After Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III is still the Sovereign of the country and the United Kingdom has its Representative there who is the Governor. And the British Prime Minister remains the Chief Executive and Britons since 2002. However, the legislative power is held by a local Assembly called House of Assembly.

The history of this archipelago of the Turks and Caicos Islands has been particularly eventful over the years, in that they were sometimes attached to one or other of the large islands of the region. To the point that even Canada through some of the politicians had annexation aims. But, in the end, Canadian politicians finally realized that it was not worth falling out with the United Kingdom for a string of islands and they gave it up for good. Before their independence in 1962, they were successively attached to the Bahamas until 1848, then to Jamaica until 1962, and then to the Bahamas until 1973.

This archipelago, whose main economic activities revolved around lobster and conch, has gradually turned towards tourism and offshore financial services. Just like most of the Channel Islands in this region. The destination is increasingly recommended for lovers of beautiful beaches or scuba diving, as it is considered one of the best whale watching tours in the world. It is no coincidence that one of its beaches, in this case Grace Bay Beach, has been declared “best beach in the world” several times. It is located on the island of Providenciales and has high standing hoteliers, to allow you to spend unforgettable moments in a place where time seems to stand still.

However, we can combine this sporting passion or curiosity and relaxation with history. Inhabited in older times by the Arawak and Kalinago Indians, slavery left its mark even in these small islands at the end of the world.

Several cruises are organized to this destination. To get there by plane, you have to go through Providenciales International Airport, the main point of arrival for travelers. They have two major subdivisions, namely the Turks Islands and the Caicos Islands. The main islands of the Caicos Islands are: West Caicos (West Caicos), Providenciales, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, East Caicos, South Caicos, Little Ambergris Cay, Great Ambergris Cay, Pine Cay, Parrot Cay and the main islands of the Turks Islands are: Grand Turk and Salt Cay.
