In order to support micro, very small and medium-sized enterprises (TPME) and especially to facilitate their access to financing, the initiative "Investing in young companies in Togo" (IYBA in English), was officially launched this Friday, February 10, 2023 in Lomé.
This initiative will help start-ups and young entrepreneurs in Africa to launch and develop sustainable, robust and inclusive businesses, and to create decent jobs.
According to Joaquin Tasso Vilallonga, Head of the EU Delegation, "IYBA will allow us as Team Europe to work more closely with the Togolese government, the private sector and other technical and financial partners by perfectly aligning us with the objectives of the 2025 roadmap”.
Concretely, financial and technical assistance will be granted to companies and entrepreneurs in the start-up phase and to strengthen the organizations that support them.
Togo was selected among the pilot countries for the implementation of the IYBA initiative at the country level because of the favorable institutional environment, the political will of the Togolese government which has promoted entrepreneurship and VSMEs a priority in the country's development strategy and the interest of technical and financial partners, particularly European ones, in supporting youth entrepreneurship and improving the business climate in the country.
Mazamesso Assih, Minister responsible for financial inclusion and the organization of the informal sector, stressed that this initiative is part of a perspective of "consolidation of all efforts at country level in terms of support for entrepreneurs and VSMEs".
