CAMEROON: CAMAIR-CO wants to take off again

The Cameroon Airlines Corporation, abbreviated as Camair-Co, is a public limited company with a capital of 21,856,000,000 FCFA. It specializes in the air transport of passengers and goods. Created by presidential decree n° 2006/293 of September 11, 2006 with the State of Cameroon as sole shareholder. The company started operations on March 28, 2011, an inaugural domestic Douala-Yaoundé-Douala flight and a long-haul Douala-Yaoundé-Paris flight on the same day.

" The Head of State asks the Prime Minister, Head of Government, to draw up urgently, in collaboration with the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Camair-Co and the CCAA (Cameroon civil aviation authority), a restructuring, recovery and development plan for the company, with a view to opening up 51% of its share capital to a private strategic partner, in accordance with article 5 of the decree of September 11, 2006, creating Camair-Co". It is in these terms that the Secretary General of the Government, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, announced the good news to Cameroonians.

The years of imbalance and debt that the Cameroonian airline was dragging had ended up getting the better of the various flights to other regions of Africa. And for good reason, she had been suspended for two years. They have resumed since December 17, 2021, starting with two flights per week to Libreville, Monday and Friday".

This service to other regions of Africa will gradually expand to add to the domestic lines which constitute about 45% of its market. And this thanks to the redeployment of Camair-Co in the African sky with the bailout of its coffers by the State. According to its general manager, Jean Christophe Ela Nguema, the new restructuring plan will allow the company to set up a "maintenance center, a training center, a ground assistance unit and the launch of a catering service".

The Cameroonian State will thus take over 123 billion of Camair-Co's debt to allow it to catch its breath and take off again. It will consist in particular, according to the strategy of the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Parapublic Enterprises (CTR), in the acquisition of two new Bombardier Q400 brand aircraft in addition to the existing fleet in order to deal with the most urgent matters. And there is urgency indeed when we know that the African Cup of Nations (CAN) of football of which the country is a great enthusiast. And this event is held from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon. An opportunity not to be missed to participate in the successful redeployment of the wings of Camair-Co.
